This magnificent platinum coin celebrates the Year of the Goat, the eighth of twelve animals associated with the ancient Chinese lunar calendar.
According to Chinese tradition, the emperor ordered a great race between all the animals on Earth to determine who should occupy 12 positions in the lunar calendar. In pursuit of the seventh-placed horse, the gentle and determined goat travelled alongside the monkey and the rooster. As they approached the finish line, the trio worked together to cross the wide river. Leading the way, the goat reached the other side and crossed the line to claim eighth place.
Those born under the sign of the Chinese Lunar Goat in 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979 and every 12th preceding year are said to be gentle, creative, and compassionate. Known for their calm nature and resilience, they are often admired for their artistic talents and thoughtful approach to life.
The reverse of each coin portrays a magnificent goat standing proudly on a mountain plain, with rugged terrain and a solitary tree visible in the distance. Included in the design is the Chinese character for ‘Goat’, the inscription ‘GOAT 2027’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. The coin’s obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, as well as the weight, fineness, and the monetary denomination
