The Panda Precious Metal Commemorative Coin was first issued in 1982, with the Panda Silver Coin first issued in 1983. It is a representative product of Chinese gold and silver commemorative coins. The People's Bank of China issued the 2016 edition of the Panda Precious Metal Commemorative Coin set, consisting of 14 coins, including 6 ordinary gold and silver commemorative coins and 8 proof precious metal commemorative coins, all of which are legal tender of the People's Republic of China.

- The obverse features the fixed design of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in the Temple of Heaven, while the reverse design changes annually (except for the 2001 and 2002 editions).
