Description
Commemorative coins are legal tender issued by the People’s Bank of China, categorized into circulation commemorative coins and precious metal commemorative coins. The Panda Precious Metal Commemorative Coin Series, launched in 1982, features China’s national treasure, the giant panda, as its core theme.
For more than four decades, the Panda Coin series has distinguished itself globally with annually updated reverse designs. It is widely cherished and collected by panda coin enthusiasts worldwide. On 30 October 2026, the People’s Bank of China issued the 2027-dated Panda Precious Metal Commemorative Coin Set, consisting of 15 coins: 7 bullion precious metal coins and 8 proof precious metal coins. All are legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.

- The obverse bears a consistent design of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven; the reverse design features two giant pandas cuddling together, the ninth chapter Blossom of Love in the “Decade of Love” collection.
- First introduced in 1982, the Panda Gold Coin has been issued consecutively without interruption to date.
- The 1982-dated Panda Gold Coin remains the only issue without a face value.
- China Panda Gold Coins were officially listed on the Shanghai Gold Exchange on 12 September 2018.
- The colour-shifting scale technology debuted on the 2023-dated proof Panda Gold Coins and is retained for the 2027-dated proof coins. The coin surface presents dynamic colour shifts under varying light with remarkable depth and texture.
